It seems like the idea that we could visit the planet Mars, becomes more and more achievable. The price of such a trip has now become official and many people would afford it, but most of the people on earth, obviously, won’t. Elon Musk comes with a solution.
In response to a question on Twitter, Elon Musk revealed how much a ticket to Mars will cost with the launch of the SpaceX mission, which aims to send people to live on Red Planet. He is confident that a trip can cost less than 500,000$, and the price may well be less than $ 100,000.
According to Musk, the final price will depend very much on the number of passengers who want to reach space. If everything goes well, the price will be “small enough for most people in advanced economies to sell their house on Earth and move to Mars if they want,” Musk said.
Star Ship will be able to travel both ways from Earth to Mars and vice versa, and Musk said the return ticket will be free. According to Entrepreneur, Musk’s estimate should be viewed with skepticism, given that SpaceX is still in the early stages of designing a space shuttle that can transport people into space.
“I’m confident moving to Mars will one day cost less than 500.000$ and maybe even below 100.000$. Low enough that most people in advanced economies could sell their home on Earth & move to Mars if they want,” Musk wrote on Twitter
SpaceX has big plans: they want to send the first missile to Mars in 2022. The second mission should be in 2024, but with a crew on board, this time. The objectives of the first mission will be to confirm water resources, identify hazards, and build the infrastructure needed to support life on Mars. The second mission will be the beginning of building a civilization on the Red Planet.
